Tear-Stained Makeup pg.2
Page 2:
Don't ever break up with someone in the street in broad daylight. Bad things happen. The breakup scene is one of the few inspired by real life events. One of the few times in my life I felt I was in a poorly written film. The challenge here was to engage the drama and have it be...bad but good. I'll put it like this, I wanted it not to sound like the way supposed "real" people talk, but like the way supposed "fake" people talk.
Stay tuned to the rest of the pages to see if I succeeded, you tell me. I'm still not so sure about it.
Max's shirt stands for, Like Moving Insects, an awesome band whom I love dearly.
Soinu was the original title of the comic. Then I decided Tear-Stained Makeup was a bit more to the soap operatic point. I knicked it from "No More Tear-Stained Makeup" by Martha and the Vandellas. One of my favorite tunes and an inspiration throughout the story. The name itself has greater meaning in the story way down the line.
Laura Dee's outfit came to mind when my friend and former bandmate, Lisa, wore this old 60's soul-singer dress to a Red party (everyone wears red) at the Parkside Lounge. I punked it up a bit and tossed on the wig. While you may never hear Soinu, that's what they are to me, punk groovy.
